Geography Research Groups

Kelompok riset di lingkungan Program Studi Pendidikan Geografi UPI yang bergerak di bidang mitigasi bencana, keberlanjutan lingkungan, sains geospasial, manajemen sumber daya, dan geografi sosial-budaya.

Description

Indonesia, as a disaster-prone region, requires a comprehensive study of the natural and human dynamics that give rise to various disasters. The exploitation of resources to meet needs and development often leads to environmental damage and disasters. Geography, a science that serves as an integrated bridge between the natural and human sciences, is a valuable tool. Through remote sensing and GIS technology, geography provides solutions for responsible environmental management, achieving sustainable development and disaster resilience.

Objective

To provide a comprehensive study of disaster mitigation, disaster resilience, and responsible environmental management to achieve environmental sustainability, including sustainable tourism and sustainable development.

Description

The Geospatial Research and SDGs Collaboration Center focuses on advancing geospatial research to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). GeoSCo integrates GIS, spatial analysis, sustainability analytics, and collaborative geospatial science to address complex societal and environmental challenges.

Objective

To develop collaborative geospatial intelligence, spatial modeling, and interdisciplinary data frameworks that accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at regional, national, and international scales.

Research Members

Description

GeoSPACE (Society, Place, Culture, and Education) is a research group focused on the study of social, cultural, and educational geography, with an emphasis on the interrelationships between humans, space, and the environment in a socio-cultural context. This research group also integrates geospatial studies through spatial data, GIS, remote sensing, and spatial analysis to understand socio-cultural patterns, processes, and dynamics at various regional scales.

Objective

To analyze the spatial relationships between society, culture, and space based on spatial evidence, as well as developing innovative geography education that is contextual, adaptive to local potential, and responsive to global challenges.

Research Members

Description

The research group's primary area of study is natural resource and environmental management. The research focuses on water resources, land resources, and the environment, with a focus on River Basins (WS) and Watersheds (DAS), Coastal and Coastal Areas, and Remote Areas. Mapping, Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology are utilized for inventory, mapping, modeling, and downstream analysis.

Objective

To optimize natural resource conservation, watershed management, and ecological modeling for responsible regional development and the creation of advanced instructional materials.

Research Members

Description

RSGIS focuses on the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing to analyze urban and environmental dynamics in a sustainable manner, focusing on land use change, built-up area expansion, and environmental degradation across urban regions to support climate-adaptive urban planning.

Objective

To serve as a basis for data-driven decision-making for government, academics, and stakeholders in promoting inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities in Indonesia through advanced earth observation and GIS technology.
