Master Programme

Geography Education — Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia

Introduction

The Master’s Program in Geography Education (S2) was established on April 6, 2010, based on the Directorate General of Higher Education Decree No. SK 2293/H40/DT/2010, under the Graduate School, and is currently integrated with the Undergraduate and Doctoral Geography Education Study Programs within the Faculty of Social Science Education. This program is designed to produce advanced educators, curriculum developers, and researchers who are capable of leading innovation in geography education at the higher education level as well as within the broader education system. The program was established in response to the need for graduates of the Undergraduate Geography Education program to continue their studies at the master’s level.

Academic Staff

Programme Structure

The Master’s Program in Geography Education at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) formally uses the Semester Credit Unit (SKS) system as the national academic credit system in Indonesia. Nevertheless, the SKS system has strong equivalence and compatibility with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), particularly in the principle that academic credits are awarded based on the learning outcomes achieved by students.

The Master’s Program in Geography Education adopts an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach in curriculum design and the learning process. Within this framework, the program defines Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL) that specify the competencies to be achieved by graduates at the master’s level. These competencies include mastery of advanced knowledge in geography education, the ability to critically analyze geosphere phenomena in educational contexts, and the ability to conduct independent research to solve problems in the field of geography education. In general, the total study load in the master’s program ranges from 37 to 49 SKS, which is equivalent to approximately 53 to 71 ECTS after conversion. This variation depends on students’ academic background and the study pathway taken.
