UPI PPKn Lecturer Joins GCC Consultation Meeting 2025 in Seoul

Seoul, August 27–29, 2025 – A distinguished lecturer from the Civic Education (PPKn) Study Program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Prof. Dr. Dasim Budimansyah, M.Si., took part in the GCC Consultation Meeting 2025, held at Seoul Dragon City, Yongsan, Republic of Korea.

This prestigious event, initiated by the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) under UNESCO, brought together more than twenty delegates from across Asia to strengthen regional collaboration in Global Citizenship Education (GCED).

Inspiring Agendas

The meeting consisted of two major agendas:
1. Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing on GCED (August 27–28), through the 10th International Conference on GCED with the theme “Democracy in the Post-Truth Crisis: The Role of GCED.” Leading scholars emphasized the role of educators in countering disinformation, digital polarization, and democratic challenges.
2. GCC Technical Consultation & Networking (August 29), where representatives presented project achievements, discussed challenges, and designed strategic plans for 2026.

In addition to plenary sessions and workshops, delegates also enjoyed cultural exchanges in Insa-dong, fostering stronger cross-national ties through cultural diplomacy.

Indonesia’s Strong Representation

Indonesia was proudly represented by two prominent academics from UPI:
- Prof. Dr. Dasim Budimansyah, M.Si. (Director of GCC Indonesia)
- Prof. Ace Suryadi, Ph.D. (Deputy Director of GCC Indonesia)

Their presence underscored Indonesia’s firm commitment to advancing GCED and highlighted UPI’s role as a leading hub for civic and citizenship education in the Asia-Pacific region.

Opportunities for the Young Generation

The meeting also stressed the growing importance of preparing young people for global citizenship. As noted by APCEIU Director Dr. Hyung Mook LIM, graduates of Indonesia’s PPKn program have promising opportunities to contribute to UNESCO—both at its headquarters in Paris and in regional offices. To seize these opportunities, students must be proficient in English and demonstrate strong digital literacy.

UPI’s Commitment to Global Citizenship

Prof. Dasim’s active participation in this international forum reflects UPI PPKn’s dedication to advancing Global Citizenship Education, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4.7). It also reaffirms the Study Program’s vision to empower students as responsible global citizens who promote peace, justice, and sustainability worldwide.
