BUMI 2026: Promoting Environmental Stewardship Through Waste Management and Tree Planting.

As a demonstration of its commitment to the environment and the community, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Division of the Tourism Marketing Management (MPP) Student Association carried out the BUMI (Together to Plant and Sustain) program on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The event took place at Big Farmer in Kertawangi Village and involved the CSR Division committee, first-year MPP students from the class of 2026 serving as volunteers, and representatives from Big Farmer as partners and activity facilitators.

The BUMI program was organized in recognition of the importance of preserving land conditions, reducing livestock waste, and increasing greening in areas requiring soil structure reinforcement. Through this activity, students were not only encouraged to understand the importance of environmental conservation but also to become directly involved in its practical management. The series of activities began with education and hands-on training on processing livestock manure into compost. Participants then continued by planting fruit-bearing trees in areas in need of reforestation. This series provided students with a hands-on experience to learn about the utilization of organic waste while contributing to land sustainability.

The BUMI activity also aimed to raise students’ environmental awareness and encourage the conversion of organic waste into something useful. In addition to aiding reforestation and soil stabilization, the planting of productive trees is expected to benefit the community through their economic potential.

Throughout the event, MPP volunteers from the class of 2026 demonstrated enthusiasm and active participation. Participants actively engaged in educational sessions, practiced making manure, and took part in the tree-planting process. The interactive atmosphere and spirit of cooperation helped transform the event into a learning space where students gained firsthand experience in environmental conservation.

Stellina Ratisah Azzahra, as Executive Chairperson, stated that the BUMI program provides an opportunity for students to get directly involved in environmental activities. Volunteer participation in each series of activities also plays a crucial role in providing hands-on experience while fostering environmental awareness. Through BUMI, the HIMA MPP CSR Division not only encourages students to be more mindful of environmental conditions but also facilitates concrete action through waste management and the planting of productive trees. This initiative is expected to serve as a simple yet sustainable step that benefits both the environment and the community.

The BUMI initiative also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production through the conversion of organic waste into fertilizer and SDG 15: Life on Land through reforestation and tree-planting activities.
