On September 27, 2025, the Tourism Marketing Management program hosted a guest lecture for the 2022 class of the "Multidisciplinary Perspective in Tourism" course. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ismail Shaheer from the University of Otago, New Zealand.
Dr. Shaheer presented real cases of tourist behavior crises, highlighting how bad tourist conduct can severely impact local communities and tourism destinations. He shared examples from around the world, such as in Maldives, emphasizing the importance of responsible tourism and community involvement to prevent such issues. The lecture also introduced the concept of the Index of Resident Irritation and practical strategies to promote positive visitor behavior. This event enriched students’ understanding by linking academic theory with real-world tourism challenges, preparing them for future roles in sustainable tourism management.
