The Tourism Marketing Management (MPP) Program at the Indonesia University of Education (UPI) has once again made headlines with the achievement of one of its faculty members, Dr. Oce Ridwanudin, S.E., M.M. Dr. Oce successfully earned a Ph.D. in Management from the Indonesia University of Education through research focused on developing environmentally friendly behaviors to support the sustainability of nature based tourism in West Java.
This achievement was marked by a doctoral defense held on August 20, 2026, at the 6th floor auditorium of Building FEB B at UPI. In his dissertation, Dr. Oce presented a study titled “A Model of Pro Environmental Behavior for the Development of Sustainable Nature Tourism in West Java.” The research addressed the importance of tourists’ environmentally friendly behavior in maintaining the sustainability of nature tourism activities.
Through this research, Dr. Oce examined the roles of Environmental Knowledge, Leisure Constraints, and Outdoor Recreation Experience in shaping pro-environmental behavior that is, behavior in which tourists show greater concern for the environment. This study represents an effort to understand how tourists’ knowledge and experiences can encourage more responsible behavior during nature-based tourism activities. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for destination managers and tourism stakeholders in developing more sustainable tourism management strategies. Enhancing tourists’ environmental awareness is one aspect that can be strengthened to build awareness and encourage positive behavior in preserving the environment of tourist destinations.
Dr. Oce Ridwanudin’s attainment of his doctoral degree is not only a personal academic achievement but also a source of pride for the entire Tourism Marketing Management Program at UPI. This achievement further strengthens the program’s academic contributions to the development of management and tourism studies, particularly in addressing the need for destination management that prioritizes environmental sustainability.
The research topic is also closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through the advancement of knowledge and academic research. Furthermore, the research’s focus on eco-friendly behavior and the sustainability of nature-based tourism supports SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 15: Life on Land through efforts to encourage more responsible behavior in the use and conservation of the environment.
In recognition of this achievement, the entire UPI Tourism Marketing Management community extends its congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Oce Ridwanudin, S.E., M.M., on earning his Doctorate in Management. It is hoped that this achievement will mark a new step forward in continuing to contribute through education, research, and the development of sustainable tourism.
