UPI Civic Education Students Conduct Teaching Practicum and Promote Nationalism at Sekolah Indonesia Bangkok

Bangkok, May 2025 – Undergraduate students from the Civic Education Study Program, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), had the unique opportunity to carry out their teaching practicum at Sekolah Indonesia Bangkok (SIB), Thailand. This international practicum program is part of UPI’s effort to prepare future educators with a global perspective and strong pedagogical skills.

Throughout the practicum, the student-teachers were actively involved in classroom learning activities, engaging with Indonesian elementary students through interactive teaching and mentoring. They implemented student-centered teaching strategies while also fostering a sense of identity and belonging among Indonesian children living abroad.

One of the highlights of the program was the distribution of storybooks with themes of Indonesian culture and civic values. These storybooks were specifically chosen to help strengthen students’ sense of nationalism and appreciation for Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. By integrating storytelling into civic learning, the UPI students aimed to instill pride, moral values, and love for the homeland from an early age.

This meaningful exchange allowed the students not only to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world teaching context, but also to contribute to the development of global citizens who are rooted in national identity. The program reinforced the bond between Indonesia and its diaspora community, and reflected UPI’s commitment to producing educators who are both globally competent and nationally conscious.
