The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Division of the Tourism Marketing Management Student Association (HIMA MPP) for the 2026/2027 term once again organized a community service activity through the Rumah Ceria (RumCer) program, titled SENANDUNG (Spirit, Memories, and Support for the Elderly). The event, held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Tresna Werdha Budi Pertiwi Social Care Home, serves as a tangible expression of the students’ concern for the emotional and social well-being of the elderly.
This program is driven by the importance of providing meaningful activities for the elderly, particularly those living in environments with limited opportunities for engagement. Such conditions often make daily life feel monotonous and leave little room for interaction or self-expression. Through Rumah Ceria, HIMA MPP’s CSR initiative aims to create a warmer, more active, and more communal atmosphere through an interactive approach that directly involves volunteers and the elderly.
The SENANDUNG event featured various positive activities designed to provide enjoyable experiences while fostering emotional connection. The event began with a group morning exercise session as a light physical activity to maintain the seniors’ physical fitness. The atmosphere then continued with a creative activity—painting flower vases themed around dream travel destinations—which served as a space for the seniors to creatively express their hopes, imagination, and memories.
In addition, the organizing committee also arranged interactive games, karaoke sessions, a shared meal, and storytelling, all of which fostered a warm and friendly atmosphere between the students and the nursing home residents. The concept of one volunteer paired with one senior was implemented to build more personal interactions and ensure maximum attention throughout the event. As a gesture of social responsibility, the event concluded with the presentation of a donation to the nursing home.
The event’s executive chairperson, Alshaima, stated that this activity provided a deeply memorable emotional experience for the entire organizing committee. In her view, interacting with the seniors served as a valuable reminder of life’s journey and the simple meaning of togetherness.
“I’m so grateful to have played and chatted with the grandmothers at the Tresna Werdha Budi Pertiwi social care home. It’s surprisingly healing, because we learn that someone’s life journey can serve as a reminder for us who are still on our own paths. Here, we also realize that a simple smile and old stories can actually teach us so much,” she shared.
Rumah Ceria’s activities align with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through efforts to improve the emotional well-being and social health of older adults. Additionally, this initiative supports SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by providing an inclusive space for social interaction among the elderly, as well as SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through student collaboration in community service activities rooted in empathy and social responsibility.
Through the SENANDUNG program, HIMA MPP’s CSR initiative not only organizes social activities but also fosters human values, empathy, and intergenerational care. This initiative is expected to be a small step that makes a significant impact in creating a warmer, more inclusive, and meaningful social environment for the elderly.
