Tourism Marketing Management Student of UPI Represents Indonesia at The 19th AIMS Annual Review Meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia

Putrajaya, Malaysia — Agim Abdul Hakim, a student of the Tourism Marketing Management Study Program (Class of 2022) and alumnus of the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Programme at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand (2023), had the honor of representing Indonesia at The 19th Annual Review Meeting of the AIMS Programme, held on 4–6 November 2025 at DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside, Malaysia.

The annual meeting was organized by the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. This strategic forum gathered representatives from governments, universities, and alumni of AIMS member countries to review programme achievements, strengthen partnerships, and discuss the upcoming AIMS Strategic Framework (Bacolod Strategy) 2026–2028.

As one of 15 selected alumni from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam, Agim actively participated in two key sessions: the Parallel Session and the Parliamentary Debate Session.

In the Parallel Session, AIMS alumni and students took the lead in shaping the future direction of the AIMS Alumni Network. Participants brainstormed creative strategies and collaborative initiatives to strengthen alumni connections, expand professional networks, and build an inclusive and supportive regional community.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Debate Session brought together alumni and students in an interactive Model Parliament on ASEAN Community Building, where participants assumed the roles of government and opposition to debate key regional issues, policy challenges, and the future of ASEAN integration.

During this session, Agim was honored to deliver the Opening Speech, representing all alumni delegates. In his remarks, he emphasized the vital role of young leaders and the AIMS alumni network in fostering connectivity, educational diplomacy, and solidarity among Southeast Asian nations.

“Delivering the opening speech and participating in the parliamentary debate were truly invaluable experiences. Not only did they broaden my perspective on regional issues, but they also reaffirmed how students and alumni can play a tangible role in shaping a more inclusive and competitive ASEAN community,” said Agim.

He further added, “For me, being part of this forum is not merely an individual representation, it is a moral responsibility as part of Indonesia’s young generation to continuously engage in cross-border dialogues. Through platforms like AIMS, we learn that collaboration and intercultural understanding are fundamental pillars for the future of sustainable education and tourism.”

Agim’s participation in this international forum reflects the commitment of the Tourism Marketing Management Study Program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) to empower students to take active roles in educational diplomacy and cross-cultural collaboration. Engagement in the AIMS Annual Review Meeting demonstrates the university’s efforts to advance internationalization through academic exchange, research collaboration, and global capacity building for Indonesian students.

Beyond strengthening UPI’s position within the international academic network, this event also contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 4: Quality Education, by enhancing global learning experiences and intercultural competencies among students; and
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through fostering stronger partnerships among higher education institutions across Southeast and East Asia.

With a spirit of collaboration and transnational leadership, Agim Abdul Hakim’s participation in The 19th AIMS Annual Review Meeting 2025 serves as an inspiration for Indonesian student, especially those at UPI, to actively engage in building global networks, strengthening educational diplomacy, and contributing to sustainable development at both regional and international levels.
