
Bangkok, May 21, 2025 – Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) and Thammasat University, Thailand, successfully held a joint conference on Citizenship Education, bringing together scholars, educators, and students from both institutions to share insights on civic learning in diverse and global contexts. Held in a hybrid format at Thammasat University’s Rangsit Campus, the event carried the theme “Inclusive Global Citizenship Education for Unity in a Diverse World.”
The conference featured four prominent speakers representing both universities. Prof. Dr. Sapriya, M.Ed., from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, presented a paper titled “Global Citizenship Education in the Indonesian Citizenship Education Curriculum”, emphasizing the integration of global perspectives within Indonesia’s civic education framework to foster democratic and inclusive values among students.
Assist. Prof. Onanong Thippimol, from the Department of Southeast Asian History at Thammasat University, delivered a presentation titled “Citizenship Education: Tsunami Awareness in Thailand and Indonesia”. Her talk highlighted the role of disaster awareness in building civic responsibility and strengthening community resilience.
Dr. Syaifullah, S.Pd., M.Si., an Associate Professor at UPI, contributed with a thought-provoking session on “Visioner Citizen and Futuristic Civic Education”, urging the importance of forward-looking civic instruction to prepare youth for future global challenges and socio-political transformations.
Hamam Supriyadi, Ph.D., Lecturer of ASEAN Studies at Thammasat University, addressed the topic “Indonesian Diaspora in Thailand and Their Citizenship”, focusing on the identity, challenges, and civic engagement of Indonesian citizens living abroad, particularly in Thailand.
Moderated by Akhmad Fauzi, S.Pd., M.Pd., a doctoral student at UPI, the conference fostered vibrant cross-cultural dialogue and deepened international collaboration in the field of civic education. Participants engaged in discussions on digital citizenship, global responsibility, and intercultural understanding, reflecting the conference’s aim to shape informed and active global citizens.
